Luther Wright and the Wrongs - 2001 - Rebuild the Wall

 

I believe Craig turned me onto this album over twenty years ago. Luther Wright and the Wrongs are a Canandian y'alternative/bluegrass band from Kingston, Ontario. This is a song for song cover of Pink Floyd's iconic The Wall (1979) done in a bluegrass fashion, and it is splendid. I know it sounds kitschy, and I suppose to some degree, on a few songs, it might be, but I don't take the album in that vein at all. The combination of the skillful musicians playing and singing in a bluegrass style (they are very good) combined with the dark lilt of some of the Floyd songs create a collection of songs that sound honest and fun and sad. It is well worth your time.
