The Runaways - 1976 - The Runaways

 

The Runaways were formed in L.A. by producer Kim Fowley, known as kind of a sleazy huckster, and his reputation sort of kept the press from taking the band of five adolescent girls very seriously at the time, though they were legit as hell. Cherie Currie, Joan Jett and Lita Ford all in one band is pretty amazing. Their success was much bigger in Japan and Europe than in the U.S., but Joan Jett's success as a solo artist at least kept them on the map, and there was a pretty good film made about them in 2010. "Cherry Bomb" is, of course, now considered a classic and deservedly so. If you haven't heard this, their debut, then you're in for a treat.
