Chet Baker - 1956 - Chet Baker Sings

 

This album reminds me of the fall of 1992 when Glen and I got our apartment on Valencia in San Rafael. I was just starting to dabble with jazz, and I remember he had a cassette to the soundtrack of the documentary on Baker from 1988, Let's Get Lost. Messed up dude, but I love his songs when he sings... as opposed to just trumpet. Though not on this album, "I Don't Stand a Ghost of a Chance with You" is one of my all-time favorite songs. But this album got a lot of play in that apartment back when the carpets were clean. Baker died at age 58 in 1988 in Amsterdam, when high on cocaine and heroin, apparently fell out of his hotel window.
