Thundermug - 1972 - Thundermug Strikes!

My dear friend Nick has had a huge influence on my musical taste. Even before I met him, I would hear music he loved through our mutual friend Glen. Flash forward like 15 years, and he influenced me further with his love of the single greatest radio show I have ever heard, Cosmic Slop on Radio K, the University of Minnesota radio station. It ran from 1993 to 2004, and I initially only heard it when I would visit him. I remember the first time I heard it... it was a Sunday, and they played three songs that stuck with me... well, to a degree. A song by a 1970s Finnish band, a song by the prog-rock band Camel, and the 1979 song "Suspicions", by Eddie Rabbitt. I mean, come on, if that doesn't hook you, I don't know you.

I eventually listened to their archived shows on the internet, and the song "Africa" by Thundermug, a Canadian rock band, was a favorite of theirs. It has kazoo! And one broadcast had them at the Minnesota State Fair, which is a GREAT fair, and Joel was a little drunk, I think, and he was amped and he opened his show with this song. A great opener.

I played this in an RV road trip through Texas to the Rangers and Astros stadiums and then to Austin PsychFest in 2014, and the friends with me loved that song. It is one of the all-time great songs. And the albums is really good, too. I would definitely buy it on vinyl.
