Lemonheads - 1992 - It's a Shame About Ray

 

I know The Lemonheads were popular, but I don't think they were taken all that seriously. The early albums were sort of faux punk, and within five years, they were much more pop. Never really in-step with the music of the times - Madchester, grunge, Britpop - they were always sort of a balance of pop/alternative, with sweet melodies and really decent song craft. Dando sort of imploded by the mid-1990s with some addiction issues. I like all of his subsequent work to this, which I think is largely thought of as their best album. So many great songs. Listening to it just now was a true pleasure. I love "My Drug Buddy", "Rudderless", and the title track, which reminds me of my dad, Ray.
