Minutemen - 1984 - Double Nickels on the Dime

A huge double album from the great San Pedro pioneering "punk" band... they weren't just punk, they were something altogether unique. Kind of like Husker Du in that vein... and who also put out a quintessential double album that year.

Minutemen ended with the death of D. Boon in an auto accident. Mike Watt ended up forming Firehose afterward and carried on the spirit of D. Boon.

I had the fortune to meet and befriend, briefly, Grant Hart of Husker Du in 1990, and he spoke very fondly of D. Boon and the Minutemen.

I think of Minutemen whenever Jody Watley comes to mind as I accidentally taped over part of a Minutemen video on my friend Matt's VHS with a Jody Watley song, because she was Andre Cymone's better half at that point.

Ah, life.
