When I think back to some of the bands that were huge for my group of friends when in high school - The Cure, Bauhaus/Love & Rockets, Echo and the Bunnymen, Joy Division/New Order and the like - The Smiths were very much a part of that, but were never a band I loved. At least not until this, their final album, was released during my senior year in high school.

"Death of a Disco Dancer", "Girlfriend in a Coma", "A Rush and a Push and the Land is Ours", "Unhappy Birthday"... it is like a greatest hits album.
For me, Johnny Marr is the star of the band. I know that sounds ridiculous given the talent and force of personality that is Morrissey, but my argument is that I haven't loved a single Morrissey solo album. Marr wrote the music for this entire album.
