The Dead Milkmen - 1988 - Beelzebubba

"Punk Rock Girl" has been in my head for 34 years and counting, and as earworms go, there could be far worse. I mean, "All I Need" by soap actor Jack Wagner winds its way in occasionally, and that ain't great.

The Dead Milkmen first came on my radar through Spin magazine in like 1985. I never actually heard them, but their song "Takin' Retards to the Zoo," less than a minute long, caught notice. Novelty. And that, well, is selling The Dead Milkmen short.

When "Punk Rock Girl" came out, I invested what little money I had at age 18 into buying a new release. It did not disappoint. It is, hands down, a classic.

"Stuart" is so great.

And, "Life Is Shit" is an anthem for the world we share. A happy, absurd anthem.

I never had the chance to see them live, but two people I know have met them, and from my interaction with Rodney Anonymous on Twitter, can state, they are cool.

They are from Philadelphia, known, of course, for throwing batteries and snowballs at Santa during halftime at an Eagles game, and more recently, "murdering" a Canadian hitchhiking robot.

God bless Philadelphia.
