My girlfriend in the late 1980s turned me onto The Flaming Lips with their second album, Oh My Gawd!!1t's the Flaming Lips (1987).
As I would scour used record stores (Cheapo Records!), I would
consistently be disappointed to find albums by this band, Flamin'
Groovies. I am a fool, of course, and this band holds their own versus
the Lips... and this album, is so great. Released the same year as The
Rolling Stones' quintessential album, Sticky Fingers, Mick Jagger, no less, stated that this was the best album of the year. He was being kind, of course, but it is excellent.
