Even before Kurt Cobain killed himself, the whole "alternative" scene (now called indie or whatever) had been scoured by the majors, and by 1995 we had like Third Eye Blind. Shit got bad. There is always great music, but this was when we still got our music through radio, and it went sour. I am 53 now, and whenever I meet someone in my age range, if we like music, we can agree that our foray into jazz was in 1994-1995. It is kind of a cool connection. I mean, swing had a revival, and that was sorta cool, but weird. You get it. I bought a Penguin Jazz Guide and created a list of all the albums that I was supposed to listen to, and I spent a lot of money on CDs... and this was one of them. It gave me such a headache at that time. I was angry I had spent that much money ($17) on a CD. Well, as I told my friend Craig earlier tonight, my good taste in music is 20 years in the future. This album, some quarter of a century after I first heard it, is SO GOOD! Check it out.
