Sammi Smith was one of the few female progenitors of "Outlaw Country" at the dawn of the 1970s. Country music would end up more pop than ever by the end of the decade but she stuck with her style. This was her debut album and scored a big hit with her cover of the Kris Kristofferson title track. This album is so good. I listed to it in the garage with Monica the other night as we finished the last of her late mother's wine.
