Formed by a couple punk students at the Pratt Institute in New York City, Japanther were prolific for about a dozen years, though to this moment, this is the only album I have heard by them... and it is one of the great brain cleansing records. Noise pop/punk that doesn't take itself seriously at all, almost basking in joyful pretension. They were known for a lot of things that scream Brooklyn hipsterdom - performing on the Williamsburg Bridge with giant puppets, performing with synchronized swimmers... actually all sounds kind of cool. Pure fun. This band and The Black Lips would have made for a great show.
