Witch (aka We Intend to Cause Havoc) were a rock band from Zambia, a country in southern Africa, who had gained independence in 1964. Witch is not the Afro-Funk we're accustomed to from this era, but rather, a sort of psychedelic/British Invasion hybrid. The recording quality isn't very good, and frankly the album isn't stellar, but given the rarity of the style/location combination, it almost feels like 'outsider' music. Zambia, by the late 1970s, descended again into chaos, and Witch kind of faded away until the vinyl renaissance of recent years led to their first three albums being re-released. The success of the reissues led the band to record a new album for the first time in almost 40 years, Zango (2023).
