This Blue Note release from alto saxophonist Jackie McLean is the second that I have heard by him. With the exception of one ballad, it is a burst of energy. McLean was born in NYC to a jazz guitarist father. After his dad passed, through contacts his record store-owning stepfather had, McLean received tutorship from such greats as Thelonious Monk, Bud Powell and Charlie Parker. By the time he was 20 years old, he was playing on the Miles Davis album Dig.
