One of the ways I go about discovering new music is the website albumoftheyear.org. It has lists from all of the music publications and does a year end synthesis of all of them. I try to listen to most of the albums on the one that combines all the year end reviews. That's how I came about this Black Lips album.
Talk about a palate cleanser, especially when contrasted with the rest of the albums people were listening to in 2007. Think The National, Feist, Iron & Wine.. and then pow, Black Lips.
The garage rock band hails from Atlanta and formed in 1999. They took the name for this album from the great song by The Shangri-Las "Give Him a Great Big Kiss" (which is also identified with the New York Dolls).
