World Party - 1993 - Bang!

 
 
As we head dead into winter, I feel the fall. Albums that transport past the decades, that just settle in to that feeling of warmth. Those weird memories of sound, like hearing a distant high school football game or that collective cheer of some soccer game that seems so distant, but connects us.

Karl Wallinger was in The Waterboys. He formed World Party in the mid-1980s and released an excellent debut. This, his third album, is the one I like the most, though the two that preceded could very easily be here as well.

I saw him live in San Francisco in 1993, and he was so great. He had a presence, and was so chill. He was, frankly, inspiring. 

He suffered a brain aneurysm some years later and it halted his music production, which sucks. Listening to this again, I am reminded how beautiful a soul as his can inspire.

I always remember from that concert, "Have you been reading your Bertrand Russell?"
