Television - 1977 - Marquee Moon

 

Tom Verlaine, the leader of Television, passed away from cancer a few weeks back at age 73. It was a good time to revisit one of the defining albums of the NYC punk era. Like other bands that got famous from that scene - Blondie and Talking Heads - they weren't really what we think of as punk. Even by the standards of the time, Television's sound was clean and angular, far more in line with what we call post-punk. This was their debut, and it is deservedly considered a classic.
