9th Wonder - 2016 - Zion

 

9th Wonder is Patrick Denard Douthit, born in 1975 in North Carolina. He first came to my intention as the producer of Little Brother, a great hip-hop group that my friend Walter turned me onto quite some time ago. The only reason I listened to this album, nearly two decades after I became aware of his existence, is that I choose albums in alphabetical order, and in the "#" section, there aren't that many, and so I added this album.. and it was right after I had posted about J Dilla. I wrote to Walter while listening to this, that J Dilla is great, but 9th Wonder is, to my ears, just as good. Jay, to be fair, passed early from a rare disease... the comparison wasn't meant to be a dis. This album is, if you like J Dilla's Donuts, worth listening to... instrumental soundscape by a great hip-hop producer.
