Dinosaur Jr. - 1988 - Bug

I don't remember how I first heard of this band. So many of the late 80s bands that I learned of were from either literally college radio (Macalester College, St. Paul) or from college kids in Minneapolis (MCAD). Shit, it was a long time ago. But I do remember doing a lot of LSD in the summer of 1989 when living with Glen in the Hillbilly Haven, a fucked up East St. Paul neighborhood... we lived there less than a year.. but that time resonates with me unlike any other. There was a video we took of ourselves.. in his room, just sitting there, and this album was playing. I don't remember the conversation all that much, but the music brings me back to that time and place. And my posting of this album is not just nostalgic... I listened to it again recently, and am again right now, and it is amazing. I think they aimed to do Neil Young in a way that Neil Young probably beat them to... but it has a laconic sound that really works with LSD... in all of its phases.
