This is the first solo recording piano album by Keith Jarrett. Only around 25 at at the time, he recorded this in one day on November 10, 1971 in Oslo, the day after performing with Miles Davis. That's a pretty great couple of days.
I am not very schooled in jazz and don't pretend to be. I just like to listen to it and know what I like, and this is so good. The Rolling Stone reviewer, Bob Palmer, said at the time that it was "perhaps the best solo piano recording since Art Tatum left us."
A few years later, in 1975, Jarrett would release the all-time best selling solo piano album The Koln Concert which is also essential.
