Leroy Hutson - 1975 - Hutson

 

Leroy Huston replaced Curtis Mayfield in The Impressions, recording a couple albums with them in the early 1970s before moving on to a solo career. This, his third solo effort, caught a lot of attention and for good reason. The first song alone is worth the price of admission. It seems to be a rather straightforward R&B single on first listen, but then you hear the rather eccentric arrangements, nuanced as they are, and it tempts you (at least it did me) to just hit repeat. The entire album is excellent, though only 28 minutes.
